A Walk on the Beach

Well, my last entry was just gigantic.  I'll try to do a better job of keeping up with the week's events so I don't get so far behind and have to put everything into one huge blog entry.  That's no fun to read.  So here are several pictures of the walk I took down to the beach this afternoon to make up for the lack of pictures in my last post :-)

Leaving my apartment to walk to the beach.  You can see the water from my doorstep.

My apartment building

A better picture of Mt. Katmai.  It was a much clearer day today then the last time I tried to take a picture of the volcano.

One of the roads in the village and some of the houses and buildings.

The school

Some of the surrounding mountains and the wind turbines

Getting closer to the water

It was very sunny today, but also very windy.

Pretty mountains

A fuller view of the volcano

Black sand beaches

My mud boots

It really is a beautiful place

I tried to take pictures from side to side of the beach and the mountains.  It would have worked better if I had one of those coole panoramic cameras, but I don't...oh well.

A wave breaking on the beach

Standing in the water

Wind turbines against the mountains.  It was very windy today.

Some sea kelp

A neat looking pourous rock that I found on the beach

Wind turbines...apparently a very progressive thing for a native village to have.

Walking back from the beach

My apartment again

Some of the village houses

A house way up on the hill.
Another house or building (I'm not sure which) way far up in the hills.

The village

View from my front door/porch.

Another view from my porch.

One more view from my porch.

The village and the beautiful mountains.

What my sock looked like after I took my boots off.
